Shakespeare scholar James Shapiro will be discussing his latest book, The Year of Lear, in the next free session of the Theatre for a New Audience's Open Books series on Monday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Mark Morris Dance Center.
Open Books is a series of lively, engaging conversations with the authors of some of American theater's most acclaimed new books. Hosted by the Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA), these free public talks are curated and moderated by the TFANA's literary advisor, Jonathan Kalb, and include a Q&A with the author and a book signing. Books are available for purchase, and TFANA subscribers receive a 10 percent discount on all book purchases.
In The Year of Lear, James Shapiro shows how the tumultuous events of 1606 influenced three of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies.
This event will be at the James and Martha Duffy Performance Space at Mark Morris Dance Center, 3 Lafayette Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11217. Although admission is free, limited seating is available and should be reserved in advance. For more information on the Open Books series and to RSVP, visit www.tfana.org/1617season/public-events/open-books, or call 212-229-2819 ext. 10.
