New episodes of the award-winning BBC One daytime medical drama Doctors were recently filmed at the RSC this week as the series incorporated a Shakespearean theme for an upcoming arc of telecasts coinciding with the playwright's birthday.
Cast and crew from the Midlands-based medical drama, which follows the lives and loves of staff and patients at the fictional Mill Health Centre, descended on Stratford-upon-Avon to film a series of stories involving King Lear, Hamlet, and a host of other Shakespearean characters.
Combining plot lines and themes from Shakespeare's work, the episodes being filmed at the RSC make up five special installments, all with a Shakespearean theme, which are to be broadcast in April.
This year's World Shakespeare Festival forms the backdrop to the storyline, and filming took place on location in and around the RSC.
Doctors is broadcast Monday to Friday at 1:45 p.m. on BBC One. The Shakespearean– themed episodes of Doctors will be broadcast from the week of April 23–27.
