The Shakespeare Project of Chicago has chosen its four titles—three of them by William Shakespeare—for its upcoming 19th season of free, professional theatrical readings at four Chicago-area locations.
The season will open the weekend of Oct. 18–20 with Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice directed by Michelle Shupe. Thomas Heywood's The Fair Maid of the West will be presented the weekend of Jan. 17–19, 2014, directed by the company's artistic director, Peter Garino. Two Shakespearean comedies follow: The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Feb. 21–23, directed by Jeff Christian and All's Well That Ends Well, April 25–27, directed by Associate Artistic Director Barbara Zahora.
The Niles Public Library hosts Friday evening performances at 7 p.m. On Saturdays, a 10 a.m. performance is given at the Newberry Library, Chicago, followed by a 2 p.m. performance at the Wilmette Public Library. On Sundays, a 2 p.m. performance can be seen at the Highland Park Public Library.
The company still has one more presentation this year, The Reign of King Edward III attributed to Shakespeare and Thomas Kyd. Directed by Peter Garino, this reading will be staged at the four libraries April 19-21, and at Illinois State University on April 22.
