The Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City is conducting an on-line auction of on-stage souvenirs from its 2014 season. Top bidders could own Malvolio's yellow cross garters and umbrella from Twelfth Night, a vintage coat or wild west sign from The Comedy of Errors, the red and white striped boots worn by "the Wolf" in the production of Into the Woods, or the "mod" green and orange llamas from Boeing, Boeing.
The auction will continue until 8 p.m. MST on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014. Proceeds from this auction go to support the Utah Shakespeare Festival annual fund, which allows the Festival to achieve its mission of presenting life-affirming classic and contemporary plays in repertory, with Shakespeare as its cornerstone. These plays are enhanced by interactive Festival experiences that entertain, enrich, and educate.
Some of the top items in the bidding thus far are the phrenology head from Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, the liquor cabinet from Boeing Boeing, a set of two telescopes used by Count Orsino in Twelfth Night, a small shield wall hanging from Measure for Measure, Cinderella's slippers from Into the Woods, a spittoon and a sign offering a reward for "Any Syracusean" from Comedy Of Errors, and Elinor's hand-painted picture from Sense and Sensibility.
"Our grateful thanks to all of the many talented artists and artisans: stitchers, painters, designers, carpenters, and craftspeople who had a hand in designing and constructing these items," said a statement on the company's Website. "Their skills are priceless to the Utah Shakespeare Festival and our audience; and so are these items!"
