The Long Beach Shakespeare Company and the GO-FAME Youth Theatre Company, also in Long Beach, Calif., have partnered to coproduce the GO-Shakespeare Summer Camp for kids ages 8 to 18.
The camp will be offered in two sessions: Taming of the Shrew, July 23–August 2, and Comedy of Errors, August 6–17. Kids can sign up for either or both camps, which will be conducted at the GO-FAME Studio in the Long Beach Towne Center (7255 Carson Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90808 at the intersection of Carson Street and the 605 Freeway).
Both camps will teach participants acting, dance, and stage combat as well as technical theater, including set and costume design (and face painting). Campers will also explore and experience Shakespeare's language and style as well as learn about his life and plays. Each camp session culminates in the performance of a short version of one of Shakespeare's plays.
Camp sessions run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with extended hours on the last day of camp to prepare for the show. The fee is $295 per camper per session.
You've got to love their tag line: Act now so your kids can act later. To register, go to the GO-FAME website at http://www.go-fame.org/Summer_Programs_2012.html.
