JSC Founder Offers Actors' Workshop

Joanne Zipay, founder and artistic director of the Judith Shakespeare Company in New York City, is offering a five-week monologue and scene workshop called “Brush Up Your Shakespeare!” on Wednesday evenings, November 7–December 12 from 7–9:30 p.m. Classes will be at Paul Michae's the Network Studios, 242 West 36th Street, third floor. The cost is $200 for the entire series.

Judith Shakespeare Company logoThe workshops offer actors an opportunity to prepare new audition material and strengthen existing audition pieces in preparation for graduate school and Shakespeare festival auditions. Actors should be prepared on the first day of the workshop to work on at least one Shakespeare monologue. Zipay may also recommend further monologues or scenes for each student at the first session. Coaching of scenes and monologues will be supplemented with warm-ups and exercises for the entire class.

Registration deadline is Nov. 2.

Zipay most recently directed the Judith Shakespeare Company's gender-blind Cymbeline and reverse-gender Two Gentlemen of Verona. She has served as director and dramaturg for numerous JSC productions, including Macbeth, which was honored with a 1996 OOBR (Off-Off-Broadway) Award, and Julius Caesar, which was featured on national television's Lifetime Live.  She also directed the Off-Broadway premiere production of Elizabeth Rex with Nicu's Spoon Theatre.
