The Children's Shakespeare Theatre (CST) in Rockland County, New York, will be sending its Beatle-inspired musical version of As You Like it to the 14th Annual World Festival of Children's Theatre this June in Stratford, Canada.
The festival, June 5–14, will feature 22 troupes—a total of about 500 kids between the ages of 7 and 15—from 20 countries in six continents. The Children's Shakespeare Theatre will be representing the United States. While in Stratford, CST actors will have the opportunity to study acting, voice, stage combat, and other theatrical arts with the professional actors of the Stratford Festival company. They will also be performing at local schools and participating in cultural events.
The theme of this year's festival is "My World, Our Planet." The festival is encouraging theater and dance productions that "have at their hearts stories that share hopes and fears, a green Earth, dreams and dreamers, little worlds in this big world, the enchanted kingdom and the secret garden" while exploring and honoring "the world of the child."
CST one-hour version of As You Like It has a cast of 10 kids wearing 1960s costumes and performing original songs set to Beatles tunes. CST Artistic Director Diana Green is the show's director.
